Partial dentures fill the space where several teeth are missing. Using a partial denture helps to improve speaking, smiling, and chewing. In addition, filling the space with a partial denture prevents movement of the remaining teeth.

Full or complete dentures are used when all the teeth in the arch are missing or the few remaining teeth are pulled. Patients now have the option of conventional or immediate dentures. The conventional dentures are placed after the teeth are removed and the gums are healed, which can take up to six weeks. In the meantime, the patient has no teeth. Immediate dentures are made in advanced and placed immediately, but often have to be adjusted when the mouth has healed.

The Denture Process

You will have several visits to the dentist for impressions and measurements to create your dentures and try in appointments to be sure the fit and appearance are right. The final adjustments are completed at the last visit to ensure a comfortable fit. Your new dentures will last for years, but adjustments and repairs may be needed periodically with wear. The dentist will provide instructions regarding the cleaning and care of your new dentures.
